What is vaping?
Vaping is the inhaling and exhaling of vapour created by either an electric cigarette or other vaping device. They are ultimately battery powered smoking devices that have cartridges filled with a liquid – this typically contains nicotine, flavourings and chemicals. Vaping works when an electronic device heats a liquid and turns it into an aerosol (vapour) which can then be inhaled. Vaping is seen to be a much healthier alternative to smoking, therefore it has become an increasingly popular choice for people trying to quit smoking.
Who is vaping aimed at?
Vaping is aimed at anyone over the age of 18. It is targeted mainly at people who currently smoke; however they may be looking to quit and move to a much healthier alternative. Vaping is becoming a powerful tool to shift people away from using conventional tobacco products.
Are there different types of vaping?
Yes, there are two main types of vaping. The first is aimed more towards people who are just starting to quit smoking completely. This type of vaping uses low power devices (for example pens and e-cigarettes) and a liquid blend made primarily out of Propylene Glycol to create a mouth-to-lung system which allows you to draw vapour in your mouth first and then inhale it; just like a tobacco cigarette.
The second can be referred to as either sub-ohm vaping, power vaping or volume vaping. This type of vaping needs bigger and more powerful battery packs and higher VG e-liquids. When it comes to this type of vaping nicotine isn’t as important, as this is more about great flavours and large clouds of vapour. However, of course it can still be used to help quit smoking.
What do you recommend for a first time vaper?
When it comes to vaping, every single person will be different so it is hard to give an answer that suits everyone. It is important that you understand what you are vaping for, whether you were a heavy smoker and still need a strong hit of nicotine and what types of flavours are going to suit you best. Coming into our shop to try different things and having a one-to-one talk with us is the best way to know exactly what you are going to need.
How old must you be to buy a vape?
You must be over the age of 18 in order to purchase and use a vape.
Will vaping help me stop smoking?
Despite no scientific evidence, there are numerous advertisements indicating that vaping will help you stop smoking. In fact, evidence has shown that vaping is one of the most effective quit aids available and helps around 50,000 smokers quit a year.
Is it healthier to vape than smoke?
Yes, in fact Public Health England states that electronic cigarettes are 95% safer than smoking. Vaping is ultimately the inhaling of vapour, rather than combusted plant matter, chemicals and paper. When you are smoking a tobacco cigarette you are inhaling added chemicals. Whether you are a smoker or not, you will be aware that these chemicals can then lead to devastating diseases such as cancer or other health problems.
What are the benefits of vaping?
There are numerous benefits when it comes to vaping, both physically and mentally. The main one being that it is so much better for your overall health than smoking and is an effective way to quit for good. It has also been shown that vaping is much cheaper and more cost effective. It allows you to explore and have more choice in flavours due to the amount of e-liquids that are constantly being introduced to the market. Vaping also doesn’t produce harmful chemicals when it is exhaled and second-hand vapour is nowhere near as harmful as second-hand smoke.
How long will my liquid last?
There is no definitive answer; it of course depends on how much you are using your vape. If you are someone who spends all day vaping then you will most likely go through more than half a bottle a day. Whereas if you are someone who can only vape when they get a quick five minute break here and there, then you will undoubtedly go through less. Let’s use an example; a 10ml liquid, depending on the usage, should last a 20-a-day smoker around two to three days.
Can I vape indoors?
You should always check the premises policy beforehand to see if they allow the usage of vapes/e-cigarettes indoors. Despite them not being affected by smoking-ban laws, it is ultimately down to the owner of the business whether they permit the use or not.
What flavours are available?
This is where the fun begins; when it comes to e-liquid the flavours are endless and there is the added bonus that companies are always bringing out something new. Flavours can range from tobacco and menthol all the way to doughnut and strawberry. Depending on the vape shop that you use, it will depend on the flavours that are available. Having such versatile flavours means that you have the chance to explore what you like and what you don’t like.
What is e-liquid? What am I inhaling?
E-liquid is simply the fluid that goes into the tank of an e-cigarette or vape that creates vapour. It is made up of evaporated Propylene Glycol, vegetable Glycerine, flavourings, nicotine (if needed) and then the rest is mainly water.
How much nicotine is in e-liquid? Do I have to add nicotine?
Yes, you can still vape without having any nicotine. E-liquids tend to come in the following strengths: 24mg, 18mg, 12mg, 6mg, 3mg and 0mg (zero nicotine). It really does depend on how much you feel that you need. For example, someone who has been a smoker their whole life may feel they need a higher strength of nicotine when they first start vaping. Ultimately, the lower the mg/ml or percentage, the less nicotine is contained in the e-liquid.
How do I choose the right products for me?
Every single person who vapes does it for different reasons and will have a different preference to you. It is recommended to start with one of our starter kits so that you can find your feet, understand what you do and don’t like and explore what exactly it is you need. Of course, once you have established what you like you can then start to upgrade your vape and really establish what products are for you. A lot of this is trial and error, as long as you find what works for you then you are onto a winner.
Do vapes produce harmful chemicals or blow up?
You may have heard some stories that have possibly put you off; this can happen with many things. However, when you are using a high quality vape or e-cigarette correctly then there are fewer harmful chemicals present in the vapour than in tobacco smoke.
It is important that you are using the correct charger for your vape and not leaving it unattended whilst it is charging. This is going to help avoid any potentially harmful incidents. Also, it is vital that you ensure that you are buying from a reliable supplier and avoiding generic charging equipment.
Is vaping cheaper than smoking?
The simple answer is yes; vaping is significantly cheaper than smoking. It is no secret that cigarette prices are constantly going up; spending that much money will take its toll on both your physical and mental health. Yes, the initial spend when you start vaping is more expensive than buying a pack of cigarettes, however in the long run you will be saving a lot. A pack of cigarettes will go up in smoke and be done whereas a vape is going to last you a significant amount of time longer.
Does vaping taste the same as smoking a tobacco cigarette?
If you are looking to still get a strong hit from your vape then it is important that you have the correct nicotine strength otherwise you aren’t going to be able to taste it. There is a wide variety of flavours available so you are able to replicate a tobacco flavour if you did want to. Thanks to today’s advanced technology within the vape industry, you are able to replicate smoking from the throat hit. You can also get the desired flavour and head rush from the nicotine.
How often can I vape?
You can vape as much or as little as you like. There are simply no rules when it comes to this. When you first quit smoking, you may find yourself vaping that little bit more but it could decrease over time. However, everyone is different and some will use it more than others.
Can I mix e-liquid flavours together?
Yes, you can. Of course some flavours and tastes will work better than others but it can be done. As e-liquids are now mainly made up of vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol and flavourings, mixing the same things together will not by any means mess up the way that the juice vapes.
What is the shelf life of e-liquid?
The shelf life of e-liquid usually ranges between one and two years from the date of manufacture. This is down to the constituents present in the juice. It is always good to check the label on the bottle of e-liquid as this will also give you guidance.
